The SmartOffice 283 Document Scanner from Plustek features a 600dpi scan element and can process up to 25 pages per minute. The scanner employs image processing, including auto-cropping, auto-alignment, and blank page detection, to ensure scans come out right the first time. The scanner's 50-page ADF and programmable 1-touch scan buttons makes it easy to scan multipage documents in a single step. The buttons can be programmed to save scans as a searchable PDF or to save the file to a specific folder, including a network or FTP folder. Additionally, the buttons can be programmed to send the scans directly to email or to a printer.
The included software suite provides a powerful set of tools to help you get the most out of the scanner. The scanner comes with Hotcard BizCard Finder 3.0 which extracts contact information from scanned business cards and organizes the data in a spreadsheet. The data can then be imported into a contact manager such as Outlook or Google Contacts.
NewSoft Presto PageManager 7.23 provides an easy way to manage your scanned documents. PageManager lets you organize your scans in a folder-based system and includes a document viewer so there's no need to open other applications to view files. Once you organize your files into folders, you can tag files and make it easy to find them later on.
Also included with the SmartOffice PS283 is ABBYY FineReader 6.0 Sprint Plus which includes OCR (optical character recognition) support for over 170 languages so you can convert scanned files into editable text. The text can then be easily imported into software such as Microsoft Word or Excel or other word processors and spreadsheet creators.
